Garden Before | After

Products we used and how we built the garden.

I didn’t know I was going to start a micro flower farm…it just happened. My cousins in Michigan have a gorgeous flower farm and their flowers were stunning. I decided to support them and purchase some tubers. I also watched the show about the Floret flower farm and I was hooked.

These (the flowers up there) were a surprise. I have still have zero clue what I did to get such beautiful flowers, but I don’t hate it. It may look intimidating, but I promise it was not.

Here is how it started. A pile of gravel. Just me, the dog & a dream.

We ordered our garden beds from Vego. I went to a local garden supply and ordered a pile of dirt & mulch. I started assembling the raised beds (which was very easy). My husband helped level out the gravel to make room for the garden beds and to make sure that the garden beds themselves would be level.

Here in Colorado it can get pretty toasty. I normally water my garden every morning and night by hand, but I knew in order to have any success I’d need to hook up to an irrigation system. I was going to tap into our yard irrigation but since the garden is close to my spicket, I decided to buy a timer from Home Depot and hook up irrigation piping to that timer. It has worked out great and I love that I can customize it outside of my normal zoned irrigation.

Here is a link to the Rain Bird Irrigation Timer I used. I then used the following items. I basically ran a 1/2 inch drip line from the timer through the garden and then branched off and did a 1/2 inch line in each bed. Depending on what I had growing in each bed, I then customized a 1/4 line with either a drip end or bubblers/sprayer attachments. Let’s just say I stood in the irrigation section of Home Depot for quite awhile just staring at things.

Supplies List

Hope this list helps and allows you to take a jump into the world of raised beds. There is so much I have learned this year, so I am sure I will share more in the future…just didn’t want to word vomit all over.

This year I had the best success with my dahlias, celosia & sunflowers. I failed at the blueberries, pumpkins & watermelon. Good thing there is always next year ๐Ÿ˜‰

With Love, Chloe
