July “farm” Update

We just took our kiddos to the local county fair and I told my mom it reminded me of my childhood. I loved riding horses in our fair and all the 4H stuff. There is something about the work ethic of kids raised mucking horse stalls. She asked me…why don’t you have a farm….and my response was – I’m as much as a farmer as my HOA will allow. haha

I like to look at these pictures for future years when I compare how things are coming in.

  1. Needed to work on staking & tying the dahlia beds. It was a more time consuming this year based on the fact that there are now 3 beds vs 1. They are getting tall and starting to fall over. Making sure the dahlias are supported is real important.
  2. Neem oil has been my best friend at keeping the grasshoppers away.
  3. Sprinkler system is working great! Adjusted heads and added some drip lines to allow consistent water to all plant.
  4. Had a couple surprises – like a tomato plant that I never planted and didn’t want!
  5. I picked our first cucumber. yay!
  6. Flowers are starting to come in. The light pinks are always the first!
  7. One giant cantaloupe.
  8. Pumpkin plant is holding steady and not doing much.Confused by those ones. Do they need more shade?
  9. Also, apparently I bought wild watermelon, which is not the same as the watermelon that actually produces watermelons. Will not make that mistake again.
