It only took two years, but I finally strapped on my workin’ pants and finished our youngest’s bedroom! My goal was to make it feel like a clean, modern English hunting lodge — warm and cozy, but not dark or dingy.
I even recruited some help for this one — my mom was so sweet to come visit and work on it with me. ❤️

Here’s how we tackled it step-by-step:
- Painted the walls where we knew the paneling was going to go first.
- Accent wall first: Floor-to-ceiling paneling went up on the feature wall.
- Wrapped the whole room: Added paneling everywhere with the nail gun.
- Caulk + patch: Filled every seam and nail hole.
- Tape + paint: Taped off edges, cut in the corners, then rolled everything — two full coats.
- Wallpaper time: This part took me a couple of weeks (because working mom & life). Peel-and-stick is easy, but I moved real slow, and I used a level constantly to keep those lines straight.
- Texture compromise: We have orange-peel walls (not my favorite), so I had to accept a few little bumps and imperfections.

I was nervous about the wallpaper, so many peel-and-sticks can look shiny and cheap, but this one totally surprised me. It actually looks like flannel, adds warmth, and was super affordable.
Once the walls were done, it was time for the fun part: decorating. I let our little guy help choose a few things. (I was rooting for the grizzly bear art, but he went with the fish. 🐟) Most of the room accents are from Hobby Lobby, except for the deer, Phil, who is basically part of the family now and watches over us.
And since I couldn’t find a felt flag I loved, I just grabbed some felt and fabric and made one myself, took under an hour and completely pulled the room together.
