Surfing Themed Room

Our little guy got really into watching the WSL and loved the idea of having a surfing themed room. I of course jumped at the opportunity to decorate a fun theme & something that can easily be changed in future years.

We didn’t start with much. Builder grade white and orange peel. I used to be impulsive and just pick a paint color, but I have learned to take some samples and test them in different light. I went with the middle color!

This was my maternity leave project, so I brought the baby with me on lots of home depot trips. I always look back at this time and chuckle. Just picture a mom with little 1 month old baby in tow trying to purchase 26 pieces of shiplap. I put them all in the cart and buy them. I start pushing them out into the parking lot with a slight decline and ALL 26 pieces slid right out of the cart and all over the parking lot. I will say my faith in humanity returned as about 3 cars pulled over to help me pick up all the wood and stand there while I went and got my car. However, this was not my finest moment.

I painted the walls first and then start nailing the shiplap vertically. Since this is our sons room, I decided why not fill out the wall with our prayers and favorite bible verses that we’d love to surround him with each night. It made it a really sweet and memorable moment for me to sit in his room and really slow down to pray for him.

This was also a big deal as he was moving into his BIG KID BED. We reused as much as we could and the bed was our old bed. What I loved about this design as that in a couple years when he decides he no longer loves the surfer vibe, we can easily change.

Where I pulled in the Surfer Design:

  • Swedish Flag
  • SURF Signs (made with yarn & letters from hobby lobby)
  • wooden frames
  • “Stay Wild Ocean Child” Flag
  • Plant
  • Night Stand
  • Lamps
  • Personalized Surf Board from Etsy

This was such a fun room to work on. It is bright and happy.

With Love – Chloe
